Propane models produce less harmful gases compared to gasoline and diesel powered lift trucks. The chemical structure of propane is quite simple. Because it is a gas, propane burns at a low temperature and mixes really well with air, as opposed to gasoline or diesel. Corrosive oxides of nitrogen created during propane combustion in the engine are a lot less than those emitted by a gas or diesel engine. Thus, the engine of a propane forklift typically lasts a lot longer than a diesel or gasoline powered forklift model.
With an internal combustion engine, air is sucked into it from the surrounding area. This air is what causes the fuel to burn. A sixty horse-power forklift must breath in five thousand cubic feet of air for every minute to be able to work. Before operation, it is better to switch on a propane lift truck outside and let it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions since they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or machinery and become less intoxicating after the machinery has had a chance to warm up.
It is important to note that battery powered or electric lift trucks are unable to be utilized outdoors in the rain for fear of battery damage if they get wet. A hazardous situation could occur as an electric forklift could short out due to rainwater getting in.
